For the last two months, I have joined my husband in a commitment to refrain from fast food. Since regular soda is also a big weakness of mine, I committed to refrain from that as well. I did have one cheat day in between months, but as I am dealing with a variety of health and physical issues, my resolve to be better for the long term is strengthened.
My husband is the one that is really pushing for us to continue to skip the fast food and the soda. He says that he has already lost his taste for it, but the same does not hold true for me. I actually really can’t imagine never having it ever again. However, I daily deal with chronic pain and stomach issues and something has to give. For the last several months, I have also been dealing with bursitis in my shoulder and whiplash. I am getting little improvement no matter what I try.
I think I need to go with a far more radical approach. My goal is to do better with my eating. We eat many processed foods and even though we buy organic and non-GMO versions, I know it would be better to limit them in our diet. I don’t eat terrible, but my body is screaming that I need to do something different.
My exercise routine has been really messed up the last several months because of the bursitis and whiplash, but I am going to try taking a Tai-chi class. Classes are offered at our local library. I am excited at the possibility that this could really benefit me.
American Ninja Warrior is coming back on and watching it motivates me. I love seeing what the women are able to accomplish. I am especially inspired by Kacy Catanzaro. She is such a little thing, but so strong and so capable. I myself am only 5’3. Last year I would exercise while watching the show and dream of being super fit and strong like some of those women.
I have some momentum going towards making the most radical changes of my life. I have to stick with it. I am grateful that my husband is motivated to make changes as well. I want to have less pain and a healthy stomach. I really want to lose weight and be super fit. I want to be whole body, mind, and soul.
Try brewing kombucha and/or water kefir. A second ferment, with fruit, herbs, juices, will make it fizzy like soda and it is so good for you! I have done both, but right now am just doing the kombucha (and milk kefir). This will not only satisfy your soda craving, it will help in healing your body.
Blessings!

Thanks. I do like kombucha, but I have not been brave enough to try making it on my own.

Not hard at all, just takes a tiny bit of time when you are changing out the tea and bottling for your second ferment. When you are ready, I will even send you a SCOBY and some starter!

Soda (coke particularly) is a huge weakness of mine, too. I try to eat relatively healthy (thankfully, we aren’t close to any fast food!), but soda kicks my butt!

I think soda is probably a bigger weakness than any food. Thanks for sharing. Glad I am not alone, but it would be good for us to kick the habit :-).

Hi there… we are are a “we need to get healthy” point in our lives, too. Each time we start to do better we seem to slip. Perhaps following your blog will motivate us to stay on track. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to becoming healthier.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope I can help :-). Keeping momentum is definitely the hard thing. I have to really fight my love of comfort food.

It’s not always easy. I recently had Gastric Sleeve surgery, and my comfort foods no longer comfort me – primarily because of the uncomfortable feeling of eating ANYTHING anymore. A change of mindset is in order (for me). I wish you the best. YOU CAN DO IT! Praying for you, my friend!
